About

I paint slowly, and mostly in the morning — the only time of day when light still feels undecided.
Filiz Efe is a painter working in oil on canvas and panel. Her work returns again and again to the same few subjects: hills at first light, empty rooms, vessels, and the horizon. Each painting is built in thin, warm layers over weeks, so that the surface carries the memory of every earlier state.
She works from a small studio by the coast, where the works in Quiet Hours and Earth & Air were painted. Her palette — blush, cream, terracotta — comes directly from the land around the studio: the soil, the plaster walls, the late-afternoon dust.
